Extreme Snowfall Tuesday 17 February 2026
A very difficult day, the resorts are just about full to capacity with massive snowfall, dangerous avalanche conditions, 3 trees down across lift cables, roads blocked with difficult access for staff despite starting very early and grooming continuing all night through until 11am plus PIDA control work with huge results and slides.
Well done to S3V in getting as much open as they could today. Safety is always their absolute priority. Much respect to the Pisteurs up there making it safe for us all.
Tomorrow morning (Wed 18 Feb) there will again be PIDA controls securing the ski area. It is hoped to open 1650/1850 link via AdF and Col de Loze sector by noon if possible. Saulire and Chanrossa sectors will be closed all day.

The new EU EES (Entry / Exit System) - We try it on the first day...
The much delayed EU EES (Entry / Exit System) started on Sunday 12 October 2025 with a “soft launch” (gradually rolled out and it can be suspended if there are issues ) and is designed to track access of non-EU citizens access to the 29 countries in the Schengen area. Ultimately it will make travel easier and enhance security. We tried it out on the first day... and then on the return journey had to do it all again - no idea why?
At the main UK arrival gate at Geneva Airport there are 16 un-manned kiosks available to take fingerprints, photos and passport scans prior to going through the normal manned passport check and stamp. Queues seem to build up due to lack of staff at the normal passport check rather than any kind of bottleneck at the kiosks.

With the Summer season over all our thoughts turn to Winter with La Tania lifts opening on Sat 6 Dec (a preview day over in 1850 on Fri 5 Dec will have Praz, Verdons, Saulire and Marmottes open).

A single ride up on the new Chenus gondola will cost €25 this Winter! While "mid mountain" lifts like the Bouc Blanc or Verdons will be €13 for one ride up. All descents are free. Then again the Bagatelle is much more than double the price of the Bouc Blanc for lunch! Meanwhile a 3 Valleys pedestrian day pass costs €30.50 for Winter 2026...

A solution for doing a ski season (not working) and staying longer than the standard 90 days in a 180 day period. Our original post in October 2022 detailed the application process this was then updated with the latest information in a February 2024 post
