Partnership signed for the protection and conservation of birds in The 3 Valleys

The Ski Area Management companies across The 3 Valleys (S3V, SEVABEL, Méribel Alpina & SETAM) have come together to sign a partnership agreement with l’ONF, l’ONCFS, la Fédération départementale des chasseurs de Savoie, l’Observatoire des galliformes de montagne et le Parc national de la Vanoise in order to protect birds in The 3 Valleys.

Three species of birds are being focused on, the Black Grouse, Ptarmigan and Golden Eagle all of which frequent the Ski Area in Winter. The Ski Area companies will contribute €96,000 over 3 years to support the project.

CdP is Piste du Jour, April lift openings confirmed & Masse 2 lift temporary closure

Combe des Pylones on the side of Saulire was absolutely perfect first thing this morning…

The final week of the season lift openings from 13 April 2019

S3V have confirmed their planned lift openings for the final week of the season from 13 – 22 April 2019 (the lifts close on Easter Monday). The La Tania Gondola and Bouc Blanc lifts will be open and S3V expect to have the
Folyères run down to resort open until the final day.

In fact until the final week they state that 100% of the area will be accessible and only a few “duplicate” lifts will close but all villages will be open and connected by lifts in that final week.

Masse 2 Temporary Closure

We’re informed that La Masse 2 gondola over in the La Masse / Les Menuires sector will be closed for maintenance work for a period of one to two weeks. SEVABEL will make an announcement as soon as it is reopened.

Finally – conditions about to change with the 3 weeks of sunny weather coming to an end tonight. See our video Snow Report from yesterday…

La Tania Snow Report 27/2/19 – The Sunny Weather About To Change

Tim Wall reporting on the sunny weather about to end as the dominating high pressure system finally gets broken up after 3 weeks. Looks like Winter is returning for the start of March…

Two Mysteries Solved – Alex and Folie Guitarist Found Alive & Well

Alex the dog and family along with their kennel have been missing from their home at the Pralong lift station this season. We were told back in December that they’d been relocated to the Châtelet lift above Mottaret but until last week they hadn’t been spotted.

Meanwhile the guitarist from the last few years at the Folie Douce in Méribel, Marc Mayson has not been seen there this season. We did get him in trouble at a London Ski Show event for repeatedly playing AC/DC tracks but he’s been spotted at the new Chamonix FD – which really is like a night club – he still needs to eat mind!

Suisses must be Piste du Jour today – magnificent!

Another week of wall to wall sunshine and deep blue skies lies ahead…

Combe des Pylones is definitely Piste du Jour today!

Escapade in a Day – Route from Méribel Mottaret last year – Good luck this year!

From Sam Birch:
I completed the route in 2018 with 4 others in my chalet – sadly I can’t remember their names! We started from Meribel on the very first Plan de l’homme lift of the day, and finished on Golf at 1618, with a whole 12 minutes to spare. It was pretty tight and we were behind schedule for a lot of the day, only making up ground when we got over into the Courchevel valley. Food and “next run” briefings were all taken on the lifts, with only a few bathroom stops on the way round. The two worst bits were probably coming down from the top of Col – a real long leg burner – and the long run down through Courchevel, where there was a fair amount of traffic on the slopes.

I’ve attached ski data to demonstrate the day, plus a spreadsheet of estimated timings – every lift involved pulling that out and checking the set of runs we needed to take to get to the next lift. I’ve also marked up a copy of the piste map in case that helps.

For 2019 I think the route should actually be a bit easier; Montaulever has gone so that means one lift fewer to hit during the day, and I didnt’ use Cime Caron as I tried to keep the route to blues/greens over reds/blacks to save the legs a little.

Good luck on your 2019 attempt Sam!

Plane in difficulty at Courchevel Altiport today

Pictured today at the Courchevel Altiport – it appears to have overshot the runway and with limited damage we would assume no one has any serious injuries.

We’re no plane experts but this looks very like a Piper Malibu similar to the one that tragically went down north of Guernsey last week carrying the Cardiff striker Emiliano Sala.
