Snowy

Snowy
Made it for first lifts this morning and joined Nick Ski for a quick ski over to 1650 to do the couloir to the left of the Equinox Face. Visibility was good, and powder light and deep.
Pistes had a light covering of fresh snow, very quiet, no queues
Back to work at 1115, not a bad way to start the day!!

Meribel Road Block Pic – not a strike, a burning bus

A Calder Ski Higher exclusive pic tonight!

Jack Bauer to appear at the Meribel Little World Festival with ex-La Tania band The Feeling?

From The Daily Star Today…
The Feeling have bagged 24 actor Kiefer Sutherland, 43, for their Little
World Festival in Meribel in March.
Chirpy pop’s finest smiley songmakers practised early hits like Sewn in the
French Alps before signing their record deal. Now they’re giving something
back.
A source told me: “Kiefer manages bands who’ve toured with The Feeling so
he’s a big fan and wants to go see them in Meribel. He’s a keen guitarist
and may well pop up on stage too.”

The Feeling playing a free show on the piste in Méribel plus over 40 other
gigs with artists including Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Glen Tilbrook (Squeeze) &
Graham Gouldman (10cc) – takes place from 13 – 19 March 2010 tickets on sale

Powder Day! Powder Rules apply once again today – Go Hard, Stay Safe

Loads of new snow this morning, so no friends, no waiting and no work
(I wish)…

Fresh Tracks Creux Noire

Nick, Joey and Sallyann were first into the Creux Noire bowl as the sun broke through the clouds on Saturday morning. About a foot of fresh powder and lots more due.

It’s Saturday, the slopes are empty and Powder Rules apply today!

A busy day for some today and some difficult transfer work first thing

but Official Powder Rules apply today – go hard but Stay Safe.

Considerabe avalanche risk remains off piste at altitude and there was a fatality in an avalanche incident off piste above Orelle in the Val Thorens area on New Years Eve. Know your limits & experience, be properly equipped, seek pisteurs advice, minimise risks, stay alert & aware and respect the mountain environment.

Nick from Ski Higher latest off piste adventures – new decade, new powder…

1st of January 2010! A new decade has brought new snow. Over night
snow combined with the snow that had been falling at high altitude all
week has created epic conditions at the top of Courchevel. More snow
is even falling all the way down to ‘Le Praz’ as I write.
It’staken its time coming but winter really does feel like
it’s finally here!

I and a Friend (Ed from Ski Higher) managed to fight off mighty
hangovers this morning and rip our best lines of the season. The
‘Creux Noir’ Chair, which opens up another huge area of off piste,
opened today and what lay at the top of the rickety three seater was
truly breath taking! From 12:00 till 14:00 the clouds parted and
allowed us to ski a warm up run on the open face to the left of the
chair.

We then traversed further on our second line hunt, only to be told by
a mountain guide that the Couloir we wanted to ski had a huge
overhanging slab that looked set to break at any moment. This forced
us to ski into the Meribel valley and do a face neither of us had done
before.

However as we rounded a small outcrop of rocks a face 60 turns long
and laden with powder opened up before us. After a big man hug
and whooping we were left to enjoy the stunning scenery that the ‘Plan
Tueda’ national park has to offer!

More pics up soon…
