Another great result for Jack!

He’s on a roll!
Jack Jardine, sponsored by latania.co.uk had a massive podium when he took a 2nd in slalom in the Savoie, covering most of the big ski resorts in the Northern Alps.

The 124 kids had to qualify to be there having competed at District level (La Tania’s district being the Tarentaise).

Jack said ‘I’m having a good season and love racing for La Tania .. I always say before a race ‘ Go hard or go home ! ‘ it seems to work’

Jack will be skiing at the National ESF Coq d’or event in ten days and will be flying the La Tania flag !

Give Jack a follow on his Instagram at: instagram.com/jack_jd_ski/

Another fab result by Jake Spence from La Tania too – 2nd U18 and 3rd overall. We’ll done Jake!

The Escapade in a Day – Congratulations to Eric and Felix

The Escapade in a Day continues…

An awesome day!

We didnt start until 915am when the Funitel Peclet started, finished at 445pm. The Saulire cable car is closed for the year so we used the Vizelle lift to get to Pas Du Lac. The Chasse run was closed so we took Bruyere 1 to Bruyere 2 to the top, to get to Plan D Leau. Also, we used the Pointe De La Masse new cable car instead of Masse 1 & 2.

There was one wrong turn in Courchevel 1850 and ended up in 1550 so took the Tovets lift to make it over to the Foret lift instead of going straight to Foret from the top of Aiguille Du Fruit. Col is closed for the year so unable to do that one, but made up for it with taking Bruyere 2.

Felix’s Strava data below, my 2 ski trackers cut out part of the route for some reason.

Names – Eric Ahlstedt , Felix De Clercq from Atlanta, Georgia and St.Louis, Missouri. They’ll be in the Hall of Fame soon…

What’s this all about?

The 3 Valleys Escapade was the lift company promotion of visiting (originally in 2006) 14 points across the Three Valleys and gaining a certificate & badge over the period of your holiday – then we had the idea of doing it in a day…

It’s probably the toughest day skiing ever for a recreational skier but lots of people have got involved over the years so we feature them in our Escapade in a Day Hall of Fame

This is no longer being promoted by The 3 Valleys but we’ll still stick you in the Hall of Fame if you complete it – send a Ski Tracks or similar trace in plus a pic of your group.

What started out as a late night “is it possible?” discussion became a challenge the following week – the history and our original route are here

Originally punch cards had to be stamped at each check point until electronic passes arrived – they could then be checked by the lift company. The original Escapade was 30 lifts, 13000m vertical and 70km and 2016 peaked with 34 lifts, 17000m vertical (twice the height of Everest) and around 100km total distance. It became a little less for 2017 and 2018 saw the use of the Roc de Tougne fast new chair instead of the drag plus we lost the Montaulever drag altogether. In 2019 we gained the new faster Legends chair out of Méribel and then an improvement in speed on the Mont Vallon lift too.

It’s certainly getting easier with the improvement in lift infrastructure and we should make it harder for 2023 – there’s now the new Pointe de La Masse and Orelle-Caron Gondolas too! However, it’s still a big, big day out with every run top to bottom and all the planning, chatting, moaning (and lunch) kept for the time on the lifts…

REMEMBER: You do this entirely at your own risk, act responsibly, take full ownership for your own actions and all of those with you, respect other people (& the mountain), ski & ride within your limits, always obey the skiers & snowboarders code, observe all signs, pay attention to all notices, advice & instructions from Pisteurs, only ski off piste if fully equipped & knowledgeable, it’s not a race (and you won’t be insured), think about the safety of others as well as yourself but above all, take care, don’t wreck things for others & don’t even think of blaming anyone else if it all goes horribly wrong…..

La Tania youngsters perform brilliantly again…

Good day at the office for www.latania.co.uk sponsored racer Jack Jardine with a 1st in Slalom at Pralognan-la-Vanoise winning a bike in the Coupe de Bronze championship. It puts him at the stop of the standings with one race to go but really close with four battling for the top prize.

He is racing next Saturday in slalom in the championship of the Savoie which covers most of the northern Alps.

Not to be outdone by her brother, La Tania racer Katie Jardine came second in the Grand Prix at Val Thorens. Katie is off to the French Nationals next week to go up against the best in France in Super G, Giant slalom, and slalom.

Also, Jake Spence got a third in the Grand Prix in Val Thorens and Baptiste Monod got a first. So a great weekend for La Tania punching well above it’s weight as usual!

Bozel to Courchevel Gondola enters further consultation / tender phase

Latest from the Bozel Marie on the planned gondola from Bozel to Courchevel 1550 (with a mid-station at St Bon). This has been talked about for at least 20 years but finally appears to be happening – the benefit of a reduction in private car traffic up to Courchevel seen as a big plus point and a further reason to start this development ASAP.

Auto-translation of the slides which are included below

Bozel-Courchevel: Thanks to close collaboration with our partners, the Municipality of Courchevel and the department, the valley link project enters into the consultation phase.
This step is decisive, the responses to the call for tenders will bring us a
lighting on the financial costs of investment and operation.
More than ever, moving forward in time, the environmental role of this device
seems obvious.
Traffic and parking problems become unmanageable.
Recent studies commissioned by the municipality have demonstrated and quantified
unbearable flow of vehicles for our municipalities and their environment.
Today, because of its impressive recruitment pool, Courchevel employs 3,450
people at the height of the season, of whom nearly 1,150 take the
D91a between Le Carrey and the resort. As for Bozel, 600 people go there every morning to go to their place of work.
Added to this is the tourist flow estimated at 5,000 vehicles/day. stream that can
double during peak times.
Faced with this increase in road traffic and the resulting nuisances,
the municipalities of Courchevel and Bozel elected in 2020, have decided to continue and
accelerating their collaboration on the project for a teleport link linking the municipalities.

Approved and supported by the SCOT (Territorial Coherence Scheme),
the valley lift project has been the subject of studies necessary for its
achievement for carbon-free mobility.
A command group made up of the municipalities of Bozel,
Courchevel and the Department financed the feasibility studies and
drafts a Public Service Delegation agreement in order to find
an operator capable of carrying out and operating the valley lift between
Bozel and Courchevel Village via St Bon.

The route finally adopted is as follows:
Departure station (G1): Les Moulins (next to the EDF power station).
Intermediate station (G2): St Bon.
Arrival (G3): Courchevel Village (1550).
The first estimates of the cost of the project are between €15 and €17 million.

The municipalities will receive 30% aid from the Region and are working on the eligibility of the project with other entities.
national and international: Department, State (recovery fund) and Europe (ERDF European Development Fund
Regional). Such an achievement is not without improvements in our municipality.
The SCOT requires us to create a minimum of 250 parking spaces, it also unlocks 2 areas to be developed.
In order to limit traffic in the centre, parking is provided at Près de la Chèvre located opposite the departure station at
which will be accessed by a footbridge.
The return of the call for tenders will allow us to set the bases for the financing of this ambitious and virtuous project and to set the
financial commitments acceptable to the municipality. that is why we are working with great energy on aid
financial requirements that we request and on the optimization of the technical characteristics of the device.
To be continued

David Beckham Snowboarding with the kids in Courchevel Last Week

David Beckham was in Courchevel last week with daughter Harper and son Cruz. Victoria didn’t make the trip – she was working hard getting ready for London fashion week apparently.

No need for paparazzi type photos as the whole trip was documented on instagram with the promotion of his Inter Miami team shirt and declaring how much they were missing Victoria. La Soucoupe (just down from the top of Plantrey chairlift) was one of the restaurants they visited during the week.

Meanwhile other celebs in resort in the past few weeks have included Chris Hemsworth’s (Thor) wife Elsa and the kids, Geri Halliwell as usual and Tiffany Trump with her fiance! There’s also a Stereophonic in La Tania this week too! We’ll update the La Tania Celebrity Watch page eventually…

Young Hugo Bevan experiencing La Tania for the first time…

At 14 weeks old Hugo has had his first slide on snow in La Tania and his first drink, food and sleep at Pub Le Ski Lodge.

Congratulations to latania.co.uk skier Jack Jardine – 3rd in Savoie under 12s

La Tania Club des Sports member and latania.co.uk rider, Jack Jardine had a magnificent podium finish on Wednesday in the Savoie Coupe d’Argent Trophée Carré Neige Giant Slalom over in Les Menuires. Jack could have won it but recovered from a big error – in his all or nothing (go hard or go home) style…

Finishing 3rd out of 250 of the best skiers in his age group from pretty much all of the resorts in the area is a fantastic achievement!

Anyone who knows Jack will recognise the cheeky smile he’s always wearing – but if you’re on the mountain the chances are he’ll be skiing well in front of you…

Escapade Success for Scott, Henry, Bella, Milly and Seb

The Escapade in a Day continues… Congratulations to Scott, Henry, Bella, Milly and Seb who completed the challenge on 27 January 2022. These newer, faster lifts certainly making it easier and they finished with half an hour to spare (so added in a few other lifts to up the mileage).
